▣ A friendly bee club in Melbourne · Est. 2000

Come for the bees. Stay for the people.

Twenty-five years of beekeeping in Melbourne's north-west — open meetings on Wednesday evenings, hands-on workshops at our Kings Park apiary, mentor pairings for new keepers, and a small honest store stocking the kit our members actually use.

Varroa Watch · Citizen science

A community map of mite checks across the north-west.

Varroa Watch is a member-run monitoring project for Varroa destructor, the world's most damaging honeybee parasite. The map updates as keepers submit checks — turning routine sugar-shakes and alcohol washes into an early-warning network for our suburbs.

Victoria has been on heightened Varroa alert since the 2022 NSW incursion. Every check helps. Submissions show as fuzzed grid cells (~500m) — exact apiary locations are never published.

What people say.

I joined for the bees and stayed for the people. Every meeting, I still learn something new.

Margaret W. · Member since 2009

We started with no idea what we were doing. The mentor scheme paired us with a regular and we haven't looked back.

Sam & Olu · Joined 2024

It's the only club I know where a beginner and a thirty-year keeper end up swapping notes over the same cup of tea.
